Jax once led a gang of hell-born kids and outcasts in a forgotten, impoverished village overlooked by gilded nobility. Tired of being sneered at by the wealthy neighboring town, they founded The Jester’s Hand-a crew of defiant children who struck back through pranks, mischief, and midnight raids. They reclaimed what the nobles had hoarded and returned it to those in need. Each member wore a handmade jester mask, swapping them mid-heist to throw off guards. And at the center of it all was Jax-clever, bold, and masked as the Crown Jester. But childhood doesn’t last forever. The crew grew older and drifted away, choosing safer lives. Jax stayed the course-until they were finally caught. Rather than risk exposing their guardians, they took the blame and accepted exile. Even now, they send loot home in secret…and pranks to the noble who cast them out.
Their path crossed with Quinny’s in a bustling town, where Jax was mid-prank on a group of thugs harassing two young beggars. Using prestidigitation and vocal mimicry, they impersonated the thugs to turn them against each other-right up until they overdid it and got caught. Quinny intervened with a slick Grease spell, and Sorin swooped in to pull Jax to safety. Since then, Jax has found a new kind of crew-a family. One that tries to keep them out of trouble (mostly fails), lectures them frequently (especially Sorin), and always sticks around (even when Drek joins in the chaos).
Morally Loud
Underneath the jokes and glitter is a fiercely principled soul. Jax stands up for the voiceless, calls out corruption, and always roots for the underdog.
Master of Disguise
A voice mimic with eerie accuracy, Jax loves impersonating their party members-especially Soren. Soren, notably, does not love it back.
Performer at Heart
During long or short rests, Jax often puts on mini shows for the party-impersonations, shadow puppet plays, dramatic retellings. The applause (and groans) fuel them.
Tiny Bounty, Huge Crime
There's a bounty on Jax’s head for making a local Duke cry. The prank involved a fake love letter, an illusion of the Duke’s ex, and a tear-inducing potion. The bounty is insultingly low-and Jax is offended.
Six Acts, One Trickster
They once entered a town talent show as six different performers using disguise magic and quick changes. Three personas placed. One got booed for aggressive knife juggling at the judges.
Mayor… Briefly
Jax once won a small-town mayoral election on a technicality. They declared a holiday, launched fireworks, and resigned-all in under an hour.

Jax's first designs
Jax was fun to design, we knew the broad vibe and appearance for them to take. However, so many horn options! We settled on the classic upturned front horns with their ornamental D20.

First Market sketch
The first sketch composition for Jax getting up to their usual mischief. We wanted to give a little glimpse into their world, and how they fit into it so spot the easter eggs here too!

Designing Jax's Symbol
Originally we had Jax shown with their twin daggers, but we all fell in love with their tail being included.
